The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
