The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie â who received Andy's toys when he grew up â getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
