The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial championship series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.
Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, making him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player in the world that I'd prefer in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
