McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

McKenna referred to Celtic as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties took charge of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I possess a special position here at a special team. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Agreement Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna signed a new multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he responded. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Welsh forward is inclined to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a successful European competition campaign, even if they fail to end up their group second place.

Considering his current position, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
