Iran Reports Attack on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
