Actor Rejects Anti-Vaxxer Views After Narrating Contentious Pandemic Feature
The "Taken" star has provided his voice to a new documentary that casts doubt on the efficacy of vaccinations and praises one-time cabinet secretary RFK Jr.
The Documentary's Provocative Basis
Named "Plague of Corruption," the project is inspired by a well-known publication co-authored by a controversial scientist, who rose to infamy during the pandemic for assertions that the illness was a result of a problematic version of the seasonal immunization.
The book's co-author, the executive producer, has penned books with conspiracy-prone radio host Alex Jones. Heckenlively took to social media praising Neeson's participation in the documentary.
An Unequivocal Denial
A spokesperson for Neeson have provided a comment firmly refuting implications that he subscribes to anti-vax beliefs.
"We all understand that unethical practices can exist within the pharmaceutical industry, but that must not be conflated with rejection of vaccines," the response reads. "Neeson is not, and remains not, anti-vaccination. His considerable work with the UN children's agency highlights his consistent support for global immunisation initiatives."
The response continued that the star did not shape the project's editorial content and that inquiries about its content ought to go to the creators.
Central Claims Featured in the Feature
According to the documentary, the narration read by Neeson features several controversial points:
- It states that pro-vaccine voices have called for "blind obedience" to public institutions.
- It posits that "science has become deeply politicized."
- RFK Jr is shown stating, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they are not safely tested."
- The film takes aim at stay-at-home orders, claiming they caused severe distress that resulted in thousands of lives.
- On the topic of the immunizations, it references a report that they were "rushed to market" and seen as "dangerous experiments."
Historical Context and Ongoing Debates
The film further cites a past television report about AIDS medication trials on children, which was later the topic of a BBC apology by the corporation for violations of guidelines.
Last month, Kennedy called on the national health agency to change its longstanding position that there is no causal relationship between immunizations and autism spectrum disorder. This claim is also referenced in the documentary, even with a recent study from the global health body stating no evidence has been found.
A Past Position of Advocacy
Differing from the film's tone, Neeson has formerly shown firm endorsement for vaccines in his capacity as a charity ambassador.
In 2022, he referred to vaccines as "an incredible achievement," noting that "The discourse about vaccines in lately has forgotten how much good they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest shared accomplishments in human history."
"Plague of Corruption" finishes with Neeson's voice saying, "This marks not the end of our story. Rather, it is the dawn of a new chapter."
